(6) The wall with openings is similarly improved except that considerable cracking occurs to the first storey with appreciable dilation on one side. Compared to the unstrengthened wall, the improvement is significant. Debonding of some
reinforcement has marked the beginning of a failure mechanism and continued shocks would be very damaging. Apart from directly supporting the ends of both walls, the reinforcement has encouraged shearing at the foundation level creating an energy
absorbing process as well as offering some degree of base isolation.
